Plastic surgeon reveals popular procedure they’d never get after revealing terrifying reason why

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), over 27,000 cosmetic surgeries were conducted in the UK last year, indicating that plastic surgery has become quite common today.

However, there's a particular procedure that many plastic surgeons admit they would never undergo themselves, and the reason is quite alarming.

A recent Reddit thread received more than 2,000 responses from plastic surgeons sharing which surgeries they'd avoid and why.

One procedure stood out as the most frequently mentioned, with medical professionals highlighting severe recovery experiences and an alarmingly high mortality rate as reasons to steer clear.

One person commented: "It has a surprisingly high mortality rate and the recovery process is extremely harsh."

A nurse added: "From blood clots to sepsis, the risks are just not worth it. If the fat enters the bloodstream, it could be fatal. The risks outweigh the benefits."

One surgeon noted: "BBL is the only cosmetic procedure that has its own autopsy technique."

Indeed, the procedure in question is the Brazilian butt lift, or 'BBL'.

Dan Marsh, a plastic surgeon and co-founder of The Plastic Surgery Group, explained to Metro why BBLs - which involve transferring fat from the abdomen to the buttocks - are so perilous.

He clarified: "You can inject up to two litres of fat per buttock either between the skin and muscle or into the muscle itself.

"The danger is if you inject into the muscle, you might accidentally inject into a large vein, which can be fatal as the fat can travel to the patient's lungs."

In fact, BBLs have the highest mortality rate among all cosmetic surgeries, with more than one death per 4,000 procedures, as reported by the BBC.

BAAPS advises its members against offering this procedure, and Marsh ceased performing it after noticing a rise in complications.

"I decided it was too risky," he stated.

Last year, SZA admitted she regretted undergoing the major operation, labeling it as 'stupid' and not 'super necessary'.

Reflecting on having a BBL, which she opted for after slow progress at the gym, she remarked: "It was just so stupid. But who cares? You get a BBL, then realize you didn’t need it.

"It doesn't matter. I'll do a whole bunch more things like it if I want to before I'm gone because this body is temporary.

"It just wasn’t super necessary - I have other issues I need to focus on about myself… I need to get my mental health in order.

"Not to say you can't do those things simultaneously, just, for me, I realize wherever you go, there you’ll be."
